OBS De Vlierboom is actively supporting the Haags Dierencentrum. During a visit to the school, staff members from the animal shelter introduced the students to the world of animal care and animal welfare. The focus was on both learning and helping.
Educational lessons for the youngest groups
During the visit to the youngest groups, an informative video was shown. This video demonstrated the health checks dogs and cats receive when they arrive at the Haags Dierencentrum. This way, children learn at a young age how important proper animal care is.
Additionally, the students received an explanation about the daily care of animals. They were also told why medical check-ups are necessary. This sparked a lot of interest and enthusiasm in the classroom.
Successful collection campaign
In addition to the educational part, OBS De Vlierboom organized a collection campaign for the Haags Dierencentrum. This campaign became an immediate success. With so many animals in the shelter, supplies are always much needed. Therefore, the animal shelter is incredibly happy with the involvement of the school and the students.
Rafi and Ferdi proudly showed what had already been collected after just one day. Moreover, this is only the beginning. The collection campaign is ongoing and there is even more on the schedule.
Follow-up visit and lasting involvement
Next week, the Haags Dierencentrum returns to OBS De Vlierboom. This time it’s the older groups’ turn. They will also receive explanations about animal care, responsibility, and the work of the animal shelter.
This collaboration shows how education and animal welfare go hand in hand. Furthermore, it motivates children to be mindful of animals and to commit themselves to a good cause.
