Surrendering your dog to the Haags Dierencentrum
Surrendering your dog is never an easy decision. We understand that this involves many emotions. If circumstances force you to say goodbye, we are here for you. The welfare of the dog always comes first.
In that case, please contact our dog department by email at: hond@haagsdierencentrum.nl
State in the subject line: SURRENDER.
Then, in your message, provide your name, address, phone number, and the reason for surrendering. Based on this, we will contact you as soon as possible to discuss the possibilities and next steps.
Finding a suitable solution together
When you have to surrender your faithful four-legged friend, we guide you step by step. Together, we then look for a suitable solution for you and your dog, where care and attention for everyone’s situation are central.
Making an appointment and conditions
We can only accept dogs:
Firstly: from owners living in the municipality of The Hague
Additionally: dogs that were previously adopted from our shelter

Rates for surrendering your dog
When surrendering is possible, the following costs apply:
Dog younger than 10 years: €105
Dog aged 10 years or older: €130
Spaying (if not already done):
Small dog: €250
Large dog: €300
Neutering (if not already done):
Small dog: €150
Large dog: €175
Any other costs, such as for vaccinations or dental cleaning, will also be charged.
Vaccinations
The following vaccinations are mandatory for a dog’s admission:
First: Distemper / Hepatitis / Parvo
– at least 2 weeks and at most 3 years oldAdditionally: Lepto
– at least 2 weeks and at most 1 year old
Are the vaccinations not yet (fully) up to date?
Then these can be carried out at the Haags Dierencentrum for a fee. Please indicate this in advance in your email or discuss it during the appointment.

Frequently asked questions about surrendering your dog
What are your opening hours?
The Haags Dierencentrum is open by appointment only. This allows us to take enough time for you and for our animals. We are open for appointments from Monday to Saturday, between 12:30 PM and 3:30 PM.
Can I just drop by with my dog to surrender them?
No, that is only possible by appointment. First, contact us via hond@haagsdierencentrum.nl with the subject ‘SURRENDER’, after which we will contact you.
Does the Haags Dierencentrum accept every dog?
No, we only accept dogs from owners residing in the municipality of The Hague, or dogs that were previously adopted from us.
What are the costs for surrendering my dog?
This is €105 for a dog younger than 10 years and €130 for a dog aged 10 or older. Any costs for sterilization, neutering, or vaccinations will be added to that.
Does my dog need to be vaccinated before being admitted?
Yes, vaccinations against Distemper/Hepatitis/Parvo and against Lepto are mandatory. If these are missing, we can provide them for a fee.
How do I get in touch to surrender my dog?
Email hond@haagsdierencentrum.nl with your name, address, phone number, and the reason for surrender. We will then contact you as soon as possible.
