Paws & Chat – Seniors Club
Sometimes happiness is found in the smallest moments. A soft coat under your hands, a cat that quietly comes to lie beside you, or a dog that enthusiastically wags its tail when it sees you. During Paws & Chat at the Haags Dierencentrum , it’s all about these special moments of peace, warmth, and contact between seniors and animals.
For many seniors, animals bring back memories of the past. A conversation about a dog or cat that once lived at home often starts naturally. This way, the animals provide not only relaxation but also a connection between the participants.
Socializing with people and animals
Many people aged 65 and older sometimes experience feelings of loneliness. Social moments become scarcer, while the need for attention and companionship remains high. During Paws & Chat, we therefore create a warm and relaxed environment where seniors come together.
The animals often bring a smile and make it easier to start a conversation with one another. Participants share memories, laugh together, and enjoy the moment. This creates a special gathering where both people and animals are at the heart of it all.
What does Paws & Chat look like?
Paws & Chat lasts about 60 minutes and takes place in a small group of approximately 5 to 6 participants. Under the guidance of staff and volunteers from the Haags Dierencentrum, participants get to know a number of friendly dogs or cats.
During these moments, participants can:
pet and cuddle animals
share memories of former pets
talk and laugh with each other
enjoy a relaxed and warm gathering
Everything takes place in a quiet and safe environment where both the participants and the animals feel comfortable.
