Update Penny & Rodgers
Update April 8, 2026
It’s been a while since we last updated you, so it’s time for some good news about this inseparable duo: Penny and Rodgers.
In February, Penny and Rodgers both underwent their second and final surgery for patellar luxation. After that, they were able to recover with our staff and even spent some time together in the office. Fortunately, everything went very well: there were no complications and their recovery has been smooth.
By now, they are doing so well that:
- they no longer need to come in for check-ups
- their walks can be gradually increased
- they are back together in their kennel
- they are still as inseparable as ever
We want to thank everyone again so much for all the donations and support during their surgeries. It really made a world of difference.

Update October 29, 2025
Here is another new update on Penny and Rodgers. Penny is now halfway through her recovery after the surgery on her left leg. Fortunately, everything is going exactly as it should. She is feeling good and is now allowed to go for short walks again, naturally at a slow pace and under supervision. To give her optimal care and attention, she is still staying at our employees’ homes. This way, she is in good hands even outside of working hours. As soon as her left leg has fully recovered, a second surgery is unfortunately still planned for her right leg.
We would also like to share an update on Rodgers. Rodgers had surgery on his knee and cruciate ligament last week. The surgery went well and he is now recovering step by step at home with our staff, where he is getting all the rest and care he needs. Unfortunately, there was also some less positive news: while taking the X-rays, the orthopedist discovered that his other leg is also not right and will require surgery.
Both sweethearts still have a long way to go, but they are fighting bravely and receiving all the love and care they need.
Update September 30, 2025
On September 30, Penny, our 5-year-old Maltese and temporary guest, was in full preparation for her patellar luxation surgery.
Penny suffers from loose kneecaps. This caused her clear pain, such as limping and sensitivity when her knees were touched.
She will soon be operated on by an orthopedic specialist. This procedure is necessary to get the kneecaps stable in place again, so that she can move and play without pain. Without surgery, the symptoms would persist and there is a high chance of developing osteoarthritis.
For Penny, this was an important step towards recovery, so that she can soon walk around again without a care in the world!
