Surrendering your cat?
Surrendering a cat at the Haags Dierencentrum
Sometimes it is unfortunately necessary to surrender your cat. Whatever the reason, we understand that this can be a difficult decision. That is why we clearly explain the possibilities and conditions at the Haags Dierencentrum below.
Conditions for surrendering your cat
We can only take in cats:
From owners living in the municipality of The Hague
Or cats that were previously adopted through our shelter (even if you now live elsewhere)
Bringing a cat to the shelter in The Hague: temporarily not possible
At this moment, we are temporarily unable to take in new cats. All our spaces are fully occupied. To avoid confusion and false expectations, we are currently not working with a waiting list.
Advice: check our website regularly for updates. As soon as there is space to take in cats again, we will report this immediately. Thank you for your understanding and patience.
Mandatory vaccinations for intake
To be able to take in a cat, the following vaccinations are mandatory:
Feline distemper: at least 2 weeks and at most 3 years old
Cat flu: at least 2 weeks and at most 1 year old
Is the cat flu vaccination between 9 months and 1 year old? Then the cat can be taken in, but the costs for repeating the vaccination will be charged.
Vaccinations can also be performed at the Haags Dierencentrum for a fee.
Rates for surrendering your cat
When surrendering is possible, the following costs apply:
Cat younger than 10 years: €85
Cat 10 years or older: €105
Spaying female cat: €170
Neutering male cat: €90
Any other medical costs, such as vaccinations or dental cleaning, will also be charged.
We would like to receive the medical records from your own vet. Are these outdated or is your cat older? Then please make an appointment with your vet first for a general check-up.
