Become a donor
Imagine if there were no shelter for stray dogs and cats in The Hague. In that case, hundreds of animals would have to live on the streets every year, without being spayed or neutered. Moreover, that is not only distressing for the animals, but also bad for public health.
Fortunately, we can take these animals in and provide immediate medical care. We also offer support for any behavioral issues. This gives every animal a new outlook on a better and safer future.
That is why we desperately need your help. Do you support our work? Then you can support us with a monthly or annual contribution. This way, you make an immediate difference for animals in need.
Contribute to a cat enclosure or a dog kennel
Does targeted donating appeal to you more? Then you can contribute to a cat enclosure or a dog kennel. In this way, you directly help with the temporary housing of our animals. You will be making a concrete contribution to their well-being and daily care.
This is done through the Animal Center Adoption Plan, which offers various options for a fixed amount per year. In addition, you benefit from a tax advantage with a commitment of at least five years.

Organize a fundraiser
Have you ever thought about organizing an event yourself for our shelter animals? For example, you could start a crowdfunding campaign. In that case, you don’t ask for gifts for your birthday, wedding, or anniversary, but for a contribution to the animal shelter. This makes your special moment extra meaningful.
There are also various other ways to raise money. Think, for example, of selling a homemade painting or home-baked cakes. You can also choose to simply place a collection box at your company. This way, you involve colleagues and customers in helping animals in need.
Furthermore, organizing a collection drive for blankets, cat toys, scratching posts, or dog treats is among the possibilities. Not only is this fun to do together, but it is also incredibly nice for our animals to receive.
Donating goods
In addition to financial support, we are also greatly helped by the donation of supplies. Thanks to the high level of involvement from our donors, we currently have an ample stock. This stock can also be replenished with towels, to ensure comfortable care for our dogs and cats.
At this time, we are not accepting duvet covers, dog beds, scratching posts, or other large items. Because our storage is completely full, we unfortunately can no longer accommodate these materials.
What is needed now?
Fortunately, there are certain goods we can really use. With these items, you directly help our animals with their daily care:

Dropping off items
Goods can be dropped off at the reception of the Haags Dierencentrum from Monday to Saturday between 12:30 PM and 3:30 PM. Please note that there is no longer a collection container in front of the door.
Donating as a fund or foundation
Support the HDC as a fund or foundation
As a fund or foundation, you can also make a donation. For example, the Abri voor Dieren Foundation made a donation. We are super happy with the new cat enclosures that we have already been able to realize in our ‘Infirmary 2’ thanks to the Abri voor Dieren Foundation. More space for the cats, equipped with a sliding partition and easy to keep clean. Ready to welcome our temporary guests.
We have also been able to place new cages in the room where the cats that arrive daily are first housed before they go to the clinic.
Replacement of the old cages was necessary. With the help of the Abri voor Dieren Foundation, the cats’ stay has become a lot more pleasant.
Renovation of our clinic
Since 1910, the Haags Dierencentrum has had its own internal clinic. This allows us to provide stray dogs and cats with the care they need immediately. This way, we safeguard animal welfare and can intervene quickly when necessary.
Although knowledge and expertise have grown over the years, a large part of the medical equipment turned out to be outdated. This sometimes made it more difficult to continue providing optimal care. Moreover, this limited the possibilities for further improving treatments.
Thanks to a valuable donation from the Abri voor Dieren Foundation, important parts of the clinic could be renewed. Among other things, a new anesthesia machine was purchased. This allows animals to be better monitored during operations and the anesthesia to be more accurately adjusted.
By the end of 2019, this led to a well-functioning and partially renovated clinic. This result was partly possible thanks to the support of the Abri voor Dieren Foundation, for which we are very grateful.
Shelters and play equipment on the exercise fields
The Het Waardige Dier Foundation has made a valuable contribution to the well-being of our shelter dogs. Thanks to the foundation, our exercise fields now have beautiful play equipment and functional shelters. In good weather, these shelters provide shade, while in the rain they provide a dry spot.
The added value of the components on the exercise fields funded by the foundation is therefore enormous. For example, the shelters have already more than proven their worth for both dogs and volunteers. Without sufficient shade, we would not be able to use the exercise fields for a large part of the day.
In addition, the play equipment is an impressive addition to the exercise fields. This challenges dogs in a natural way and stimulates them both mentally and physically through play. We tested this immediately after installation and the result was great.
Donating as a company
Financial contribution
For the Haags Dierencentrum, the support of companies is of great value. Therefore, organizations can contribute in various ways. A form of cooperation can always be found that aligns with your organization’s CSR policy and objectives.
A financial contribution helps us enormously. For example, you can choose to donate an amount that we use flexibly for the daily care of the animals. In addition, it is possible to support a specific project. Think, for example, of the purchase of infrared heat panels, which we would like to install in all dog kennels to further improve the comfort and well-being of the animals.
With your support, you not only make a social contribution, but you also directly contribute to a better future for dogs and cats that need our care.
Party
Collection box at the company or in the shop
How easy can it be? We are happy to bring these to you and simply exchange them again later. This makes helping very accessible.
Benefit event
How fun is it to organize a party, dinner, outing, or sporting activity together with employees? By linking the well-being of our shelter animals to this, you immediately turn such an initiative into something extra. This way, you combine teambuilding with social involvement.

A lasting future for animals in need
We don’t often think about it, but what we leave behind can make a world of difference. Not only for the people around us, but also for the animals we care about. That is exactly why leaving a legacy to a charity is so valuable.
For over a hundred years, the Haags Dierencentrum has been taking in stray cats and dogs from the region. In doing so, we offer them medical care, rest, and above all, a new chance at a happy home. Every day, we work on improving their well-being and future.

You can record this in your will. We will discuss any conditions together beforehand, so that you can know with peace of mind that your animal will be well cared for.
How does leaving a legacy work?
There are two ways you can leave something to the Haags Dierencentrum. Below we explain the possibilities briefly and clearly.
Legacy
With a legacy, you include a specific amount or a certain item in your will that goes to the Haags Dierencentrum. This way, you know exactly what you are leaving behind and what it will be spent on.
Inheritance
In addition, you can choose to name the Haags Dierencentrum as a (co-)heir. In that case, we receive a portion of your estate, entirely according to the wishes you have recorded.
Professional guidance for legacies
For those considering leaving a legacy to the Haags Dierencentrum, we are happy to offer extra support. In collaboration with our partners Westvaer and Executeurs diensten, we provide professional guidance for all questions regarding legacies. They work closely with each other and with us to carefully arrange all legal, practical, and personal aspects. Through their expertise, we can ensure together that your legacy ends up where you find it important.
Tax-free legacies
The Haags Dierencentrum is an ANBI (Public Benefit Organization). This means that we do not pay inheritance tax on your donation. Your gift therefore fully benefits the animals in our shelter.

Become a superhero for animals
Empty bottles are worth a lot!
Daniel collected a large quantity of empty bottles and used the proceeds to buy treats and toys for our shelter dogs and cats. In doing so, he made a wonderful contribution to the well-being of our animals.
In addition, he also managed to get towels and brought everything by in person, together with his own little dog. This made helping a fun and engaging moment.

An event with your school or with your class
Follow the example of ‘De Vlierboom’. Every year, the teachers and parents organize a great fundraising campaign for the shelter animals together with the children, culminating in a super cool fancy fair.
Half of the proceeds are intended for the shelter animals and the other half for the Animal Ambulance.

Take action together
Take action at work
Turn your workplace into a place that helps animal lives. Organize a fundraiser with your colleagues. Whether it’s a shared donation jar in the canteen, a bake sale for charity, or a challenge where your boss doubles every euro donated: making an impact together creates a bond. You can also set up a collection point for physical items such as unopened food, clean blankets, and sturdy dog toys.
Celebrate your milestone
Is your birthday coming up, are you celebrating a wedding anniversary, or do you have another wonderful party planned? This year, instead of asking your guests for a gift for yourself, ask for a donation to the Haags Dierencentrum. You can set up a festive donation box or share a list in advance of items the shelter animals currently need most. This way, you give your special day even more meaning by offering animals a second chance.
Roll up your sleeves at the supermarket
Want to see immediate results? Organize a collection day at a local supermarket nearby. With a stall, some volunteers, and a shopping list for customers, you can collect huge amounts of food and supplies in a short time. People often love to donate an extra tin of food or a bag of treats for the animals in our shelter during their daily grocery shopping.
Become a (corporate) ambassador or regular donor
Become an ambassador: The voice for our animals
Do you have a big heart for animals and a network you want to activate? As an ambassador, you are our face and our voice. You share our stories online, open doors to new partners, and represent the HDC at events. You don’t have to be a celebrity; your passion and enthusiasm are what count. Through your efforts, you ensure that our mission is more widely supported and more animals find a forever home.
Become a corporate ambassador: A social heart for The Hague
Put your company on the map as an organization with a heart for animals. As a corporate ambassador, you structurally link your brand to the oldest shelter in the Netherlands. This can be done through a fixed annual amount, but also by taking action with your entire team, such as organizing a sporting event or a fundraising campaign. In return, you will receive an official partner emblem for your website.
Become a regular donor: The foundation for every shelter
Would you prefer to help in a direct, financial way? As a regular donor, you provide the stable foundation we need. Thanks to your monthly or annual contribution, we can look ahead and always guarantee the best medical care, training, and nutrition. Whether it’s a small or large amount: your structural support gives our dogs and cats the peace and security they so desperately need while they wait for a new home. You can do this as a company or individually.
Tax-free giving
Periodic gift/donation
Do you already support the Haags Dierencentrum or are you planning to? We are very happy about that. But did you also know that you can easily benefit from a tax advantage? You can fully deduct gifts that you make as a periodic donation to an ANBI if the following conditions are met:
- You give the same amount to the Haags Dierencentrum every year. You can decide for yourself whether you pay your annual gift in one go or in several installments. You pay the amount for 5 consecutive years. Longer is also allowed.
- You have recorded the periodic gift in an agreement that you conclude with the Haags Dierencentrum, which also states when it stops.
- You receive nothing in return for your periodic gift.
How does it work?
You enter into an agreement with the Haags Dierencentrum. For (at least) five years you give the same amount; the extra benefit is the tax advantage. That is for you or, if you wish, for the Haags Dierencentrum. Depending on your income, you will receive back a maximum of 52% of the periodic gift.
With the signed Periodic Gift Agreement and Payment Authorization, the Haags Dierencentrum can collect your gift at the agreed time and during the agreed period. Once a year, you report your gift to the tax authorities.
What to do
To be eligible for a tax refund, a completed and signed Periodic Gift Agreement and Payment Authorization are required. Download the forms, fill them in, and sign them. Send them in duplicate to the Haags Dierencentrum, Lozerlaan 595, 2544 MC Den Haag. We will complete them further and return one signed copy.
Please note: your periodic gift qualifies as a deduction from the date on which the first installment is paid. Deduction can only be enjoyed if the amounts paid and payment terms correspond with the agreement.
Calculation example
Ms. Smit earns €30,000 per year and donates €50 per quarter to the Haags Dierencentrum. Because she has recorded this donation in a periodic gift agreement, she will receive back a maximum of 37.56% of the annual amount via the tax authorities based on the 2026 tax rates. Of her total annual donation of €200, she receives €75.12 back, so the donation costs her only €124.88 net. The big advantage for the animals is that the Haags Dierencentrum can spend the full €200 on their care.

Gifts
Would you rather not become a donor, but still give something for the animals? You can; every gift is very welcome. Gifts can be transferred to account number NL05 INGB 0004 4181 83, in the name of Stichting Haags Dierencentrum, Den Haag.
Become a foster parent
What are we looking for in foster care?
Every animal that needs the intensive care of a foster family is unique. Currently, we are regularly looking for warm foster homes for the following situations:
Mother cat with kittens: You provide a safe, quiet base and take care of food, water, and a clean environment. Meanwhile, you keep a close eye on the family’s health and help the kittens with their socialization later on.
Kittens without a mother (bottle-fed kittens): This is intensive care in its purest form. Think of bottle feeding every two hours, helping with bowel movements, providing warmth, and intensive socialization. You must be available for several months for this.
Cats that need extra care: Older cats or cats with medical problems recover faster in a home environment. As a foster family, you observe their behavior, support them with diet or medication, and help them forget the stress of the shelter.
Dogs (coming soon): Behind the scenes, we are busy setting this up. Soon you will also be able to sign up for dog foster care!
What exactly does the care involve?
Before the animals move to the foster home, they are medically checked, dewormed, and treated for fleas by our veterinarian. Once at your home, the real work begins: you care for the animals and let them get used to people, other pets, and everyday household noises at their own pace.
With kittens, this often means massaging bellies, caring for eyes, cleaning up poop, and playing a lot. With older or sick cats, the emphasis is on rest, observation, and administering any medication. The duration of the stay varies: sometimes an animal is ready for adoption after a few weeks, sometimes a longer period is needed due to medical needs. Also, keep in mind that raising a foster animal has its challenges, such as illness, intensive behavior, and eventually the (sometimes quite difficult!) goodbye when they go to their permanent home.
