A New Housemate

How wonderful that you’re considering adopting a shelter dog! This way, an animal staying with us will get a better life. Many animal lovers have already done this, and you can read their stories under ‘Letters from the Owners’.

Appointment

Do you want to give a shelter dog a home and have you seen one on our website that you’re interested in? Please contact us by email at hond@haagsdierencentrum.nl. Include the dog’s name in the subject line and don’t forget to mention your phone number.

We will contact you by phone as soon as possible to exchange information. We will assess if the dog will end up in a suitable environment for them. The specific needs of the dog are decisive in this process.

If there is a lot of interest in the same dog, we will contact multiple people and invite them to meet the dog.

Meeting the Dog

If the phone screening is positive, an appointment will be made. We will provide you with all the information about the dog, and we also want to know ‘everything’ about you.

After our conversation, the dog will be introduced to you, and you will have the opportunity to walk and see if there’s a connection between you and the dog. If so, we ask that you sleep on it for another night, and you can pick up your new friend the next day.

If there are other family members or if you already have another dog at home, they must also come to the shelter to meet their future housemate.

Fees The adoption fees for a dog are:

Adoption dog: 1 year and older €280
Adoption dog: under 1 year €330

Payment by card only.
Guus, Hummer, and Diablo (in the pictures below) and many other dogs have already found a lovely home!
