Lost Your Dog? What You Can Do Now
We understand that if your dog is missing, you want to find them as soon as possible.
Send an email to hond@haagsdierencentrum.nl with the subject line: MISSING, along with your dog’s name and color.
Please include the following information in the email:
Your name, address, and phone number
Since when and where your dog went missing
Whether your dog is microchipped, and if so, the chip number
Clear photos of your dog
A photo of the vaccination record and chip number
Our caretakers will check whether your dog has been brought in. If there is a clear match, or if your dog is chipped and has been brought to us, we will contact you to make an appointment so you can pick up your dog.
If you have an appointment, please be on time. If you are unable to come, let us know as soon as possible.
Payment can only be made by debit card.
What to Do If Your Dog Goes Missing:
Email us as soon as possible after your dog has gone missing (see above for contact details).
If you have made an appointment, be on time and bring a valid ID.
By law, we are required to keep all found animals in quarantine for 14 days after arrival, to vaccinate them, and to microchip them if needed. After this legal 14-day holding period, the shelter becomes the legal owner of the animal and the dog may be rehomed.
If your dog is missing and you find them at our shelter, we will charge a fee for the days spent here, equal to the daily rate of our boarding facility. The costs of microchipping, vaccinations, and any necessary medical treatment will also be charged to you.
The costs are:
€27.50 per day for a dog
€17.50 per day for a cat
Contact Dierenambulance Den Haag at 070-3282828 or Dierenambulance De Wijs at 0900-4035009.
Report your pet as missing on Amivedi or call 0900-2648334.
Print missing pet flyers in color. Distribute them in your neighborhood by putting them in mailboxes and posting them in visible locations—especially where people are likely to stop for a moment (e.g., bus shelters, near trash containers).
If you live on the border of The Hague and another municipality, also check the shelters in neighboring areas.
Tips
Is your pet microchipped? Check whether the chip is registered and if all the information is correct. Visit www.chipnummer.nl to verify.
Even if a missing animal is chipped, always come to the shelter in person. Sometimes the chip is no longer readable.
Always make sure your report with Amivedi has been properly submitted.
You can check the list of found animals yourself at www.amivedi.nl. These are listed with a photo, location where they were found, and the date of intake.
If necessary, distribute the missing pet flyer again after 10 days.
Search your neighborhood in the evening. There is less traffic noise at that time, so your pet may be less scared and more likely to respond to your voice.
Important
We always double-check whether incoming dogs have a chip. If a chip is found and the data is registered publicly in the database, we will contact the owner by phone, email, or letter. That’s why it is extremely important that your dog is microchipped and that your current address and phone number are publicly listed in the database.
Unfortunately, we cannot process phone requests asking us to check if a missing dog is at the shelter.
Found animals from the municipality of Leidschendam/Voorburg go to the shelter in Wassenaar. Found animals from Rijswijk or the Westland go to the Rijswijk shelter.
