Kittens

Vergoeding castratie/sterilisatie voor HDC-kittens

Each year, the Hague Animal Center (Haags Dierencentrum) takes in an average of 55 stray mother cats with litters, amounting to about 275 kittens. Additionally, we care for approximately 50 lone stray kittens annually. Fortunately, these young animals find new homes through our adoption procedure. To contribute to the health of these kittens and to prevent unwanted litters in the future, we offer new owners a reimbursement towards the costs of neutering or spaying.

How does it work?

When you adopt a kitten through the Hague Animal Center (HDC), you choose an animal that is healthy and well-socialized. HDC ensures that each kitten receives proper care and attention before going to its new home. Additionally, as an owner, you receive extra support: you qualify for a reimbursement of the neutering or spaying costs for your kitten. This reimbursement applies only to kittens placed through HDC and is intended to encourage responsible pet ownership. All adopted kittens must be neutered or spayed between their sixth and seventh month of life. After the procedure, you can claim the expenses, provided you meet the conditions. In this way, HDC aims to help prevent unwanted litters and stray animals in The Hague and surrounding areas. The project not only offers financial relief via reimbursement for neutering or spaying but also supports animal welfare and helps reduce the number of stray cats in the region.

Neutering/Spaying reimbursement for kittens

  • Up to €175 for a female cat
  • Up to €75 for a male cat

What do you need to provide?

To be eligible for the reimbursement, the owner must submit the following information to the Hague Animal Center:

  • Owner’s name
  • Residence number / adoption contract number
  • Kitten’s microchip number
  • Owner’s IBAN bank account number
  • Invoice from the veterinarian

The veterinarian’s invoice must include:

  • The kitten’s microchip number
  • A clear description of the procedure
  • Total cost excluding VAT
  • Invoice number
  • Name and phone number of the veterinarian

Together we reduce the number of stray animals

With this project, we promote preventive care and relieve future shelter capacity. By lowering costs for owners, we make responsible pet ownership more accessible. This will likely reduce the chance of unwanted litters and directly contributes to decreasing the number of stray cats in the The Hague region. Together, we ensure fewer animals end up in shelters and more animals can grow up in a safe, loving home. Veterinarians participating in this project also make an important social contribution.
