We don’t often think about it, but what we leave behind can make a world of difference — for the people and animals we care about. At the Hague Animal Shelter, we’ve been taking in stray cats and dogs from the region for over a hundred years. We provide medical care, rest, and most importantly: a new chance at a loving home. We can do this thanks to people who give — now and in the future. Leaving a gift to the Hague Animal Shelter in your will is a lasting way to help animals in need.
Why leave a legacy?
With your legacy, you give the animals at the Hague Animal Shelter a second chance. You contribute to food, medical treatments, vaccinations, castrations, sterilizations, dental care, and more. Basically, everything needed to make an animal healthy, happy, and ready for adoption.
Thanks to legacies, we can continue to invest in good care, better shelter, and finding a loving new home. Every contribution makes a difference.
What do we do with your donation?
Direct care for stray animals in our shelter
Medical treatments such as surgeries, dental renovations, microchipping, and vaccinations
Support with rehoming and guiding animals to a new home
Ongoing improvements to shelters, hygiene, and animal welfare
What about care for your pet after your passing?
Are you worried about your own pet(s) when you’re no longer around? The Haags Dierencentrum can take over their care. We will lovingly take in your dog or cat and find them a new, suitable home. You can arrange this in your will, with conditions that we will discuss together in advance.
How does leaving a legacy work?
You can leave something to the Haags Dierencentrum in two ways:
1. Bequest
You specify a particular amount of money or an item in your will that will be given to the Haags Dierencentrum.
2. Inheritance
You name the Haags Dierencentrum as a (co-)heir. We will receive (a portion of) your inheritance as you have outlined in your will.

For those considering leaving a legacy to the Haags Dierencentrum, we are happy to offer additional support. In collaboration with our partners Westvaer and Executeurs Diensten, we provide professional guidance on all matters related to legacies. They work closely with each other and with us to carefully manage all legal, practical, and personal aspects. With their expertise, we can ensure that your legacy goes to the right place, as you wish.
Tax-Free Legacy
The Haags Dierencentrum is an ANBI (Public Benefit Organization). This means that we do not pay inheritance tax on your donation. Therefore, your gift will go entirely to benefit the animals in our care.
