Zaro is looking for a home
Zaro is looking for a owner
This is Zaro. After a long period at the Haags Dierencentrum, he finally found his warm home. Here, he enjoys all the love, attention, and long walks every day. Zaro is a wonderful example of how a shelter dog with a difficult start can still find a beautiful new home. From day one, he felt welcome with his new family. It was as if he knew his search was over. His story shows how important a second chance can be for a shelter dog. By adopting, you don’t just give a dog like Zaro a home, but also the chance to trust again and enjoy life. There are still so many dogs like Zaro looking for an owner who wants to give them that chance. Maybe you are the one who can make the difference.
Successful rehoming
In our animal shelter, we have room for 55 dogs. We receive dogs of all shapes and sizes. Abandoned on the street, tied to a tree in the park, dogs coming from abroad, puppies, but also dogs that are sick or dogs that can no longer be cared for. The dogs that arrive must first stay in isolation for two weeks. We call this the quarantine department. During those two weeks, the owner still has the opportunity to collect their animal. After two weeks, the legal term has expired and we start looking for the right rehoming.
Tips for a successful adoption
To ensure a successful adoption, it is wise to be well-prepared. When you adopt a dog, you are essentially adding a new family member. A dog is a living being with its own needs and character. Before you adopt a dog, you should consider whether you can provide the right care for your new pet. Our shelter has a wide range of dogs looking for a new home. Do you see a dog you would like to meet? Then fill out the form at the bottom of the page so we can schedule an appointment with you.
Adoption process
- Fill out the form on the page of your favorite dog.
- We will contact you to make an appointment. You can only visit the animal shelter by appointment.
- Visit our animal shelter if you have an appointment to adopt a dog. All pets are vaccinated, microchipped, and medically checked upon arrival.
- We know the personalities of our animals and are happy to offer advice. Based on the completed form, we also know what kind of dog fits the situation.

Frequently asked questions about adopting a dog at the Haags Dierencentrum
How does the adoption process work with you?
The adoption process starts by filling out a form for your favorite dog. Then we make an appointment with you so you can meet the dog. You can visit the dog here and take a walk together to see if there is a connection. If it feels right, we discuss the next steps and look at the home situation. Often, several visits are needed to let the dog get used to you calmly. Once everything goes well, the adoption is finalized and the dog can go home with you.
What costs are involved in adopting a dog?
We ask for an adoption fee for the adoption of a dog. This contribution is intended for the costs of food, medical care, vaccinations, microchipping, and any neutering or spaying. The exact amount depends on the age and health of the dog. Check the adoption conditions for our dogs for more information.
Are the dogs microchipped, vaccinated, and declared healthy?
Yes, all dogs up for adoption with us are fully vaccinated, microchipped, and medically checked by a vet. We ensure that every dog is healthy before going to a new home. Should there be a medical point of attention, this is always discussed with the new owner beforehand.
Can I get to know the dog first before I adopt?
Absolutely! We think it’s important that you can build a good bond with the dog before you adopt it. That’s why we always schedule several introductory visits. During these moments, you can walk together, play, and get to know the dog better.
What if the adoption doesn't go well?
We strive to find the perfect match, but sometimes things turn out differently than expected. If the adoption doesn’t go well, we are here to help think of a solution. In some cases, the dog can return to our shelter so we can look for a better match together.
