It’s been roughly a month now since Emily and I adopted Juno, whom you might know better as Kali.
We actually had a very special meeting with her at the shelter, and over time it’s become clear that she’s incredibly sweet in real life too. Even in her carrier on the way home, she lay down relaxed and didn’t make a sound, which only strengthened our feeling that things were right. After thoroughly inspecting the house on day 1, she fell asleep on the couch, happily cuddling (the photo where she’s lying on the couch).
In the weeks that followed, we noticed that the sounds of the city center were quite overstimulating and demanded a lot of her attention, but by now she seems to have gotten used to it very well.
After a week, she wanted to go outside so badly, and since it was so warm, we couldn’t really keep the doors closed anyway. That’s why we started practicing with a harness. It took some getting used to, but by day 3 it already felt very natural.
Outside, she still finds it difficult not to get distracted by mopeds, ambulances, birds, and rustling, but that’s also getting better and better every week. Sometimes she even comes to sit quietly with us on the garden bench. She certainly knows how to keep her focus on the blackbird family in the garden; when they’re in her sights, we can try whatever we want with treats, but none of it matters anymore.
Now with the heat, she prefers to lie in her hammock by the window, but when it cools down, she always comes looking for company. Our noses have become quite rough and sensitive since, whenever she gets close enough, she contentedly licks our noses a few times. Right at half past eleven, she gets a boost of energy and makes good use of the 15m she can run in a straight line from the front to the back door, after which she joins us in the bedroom and falls asleep in her basket.
We’re having a great time with Juno; she’s a fun and mischievous addition to the house, and we love how she comes for cuddles. She gives us the impression that she feels truly at home, safe, and comfortable, and that she likes us.
