On March 21, 2023, exactly one year ago, we drove full of anticipation from Pernis to the Haags Dierencentrum to meet Trixie, a beautiful cat looking for a home. From the very first moment, we were head over heels in love, and it seemed like Trixie had an instant connection with us too.
We took her home with a few warnings: Trixie isn’t a cuddly cat and she can hit and bite. It soon turned out that she actually loves sitting on laps, giving headbutts, chatting when she sees us, and following us everywhere with her tail held high.
After a few weeks, however, she also showed her ‘noblewoman’ behavior, and it’s true: she can hit and bite, usually gently, especially when she doesn’t get her way. For example, if she’s not allowed upstairs, she’ll chase after you and give a soft swat to your calf. Fortunately, it’s always friendly and without any real damage.
Sookie also loves being outside and acts like the lady of the street: she’ll fight if necessary and returns home proudly. At home, she loves lying in the window in the sun, enjoying her surroundings.
We enjoy Sookie every day and are so glad we took the step to look in an animal shelter back then. Her arrival shows how valuable adopted cats are and how much love they can bring.
