Do you still remember us? A year ago, we, Japie and Dorus, ended up in the shelter together after our owner passed away. We weren’t the youngest anymore (9 years old) and to be honest… not always the easiest! Japie often hid when people came to look, and I, Dorus, did quite a bit of hissing and growling. Fortunately, the shelter staff knew that we are secretly very sweet and love being petted.
With patience, attention, love, and the occasional treat, we found a warm forever home after more than six months. By now, we feel completely at home. Dorus turns out to be the biggest cuddle bug: he prefers to lie close to his owners all day, gives headbutts, and lets them know when he wants more attention – even during online meetings! Japie takes it a bit easier but enjoys relaxing on his scratching mat, loves to play and cuddle, and regularly grooms Dorus.
Together we offer each other support and fun, and our new family thoroughly enjoys our love and playfulness. This success story shows that older cats, even after loss or difficult experiences, deserve a second chance. With patience, love, and a warm home, they give so much back.
We are really enjoying our new chance and hope that everyone at the shelter will also give senior cats a chance. They might need time to gain trust, but they fill your home with love, cuddles, and fun, giving you many more beautiful years in return.
