Toby

Toby was brought to us after he was found running across the road in a panic; luckily, an observant passerby managed to catch him. Once he was safe with us, we quickly noticed that he finds many things scary. It took him some time to start trusting people, but with patience and a calm approach, he gradually began to open up.

The kennel is clearly not a place where Toby feels comfortable. He experiences a lot of stress here and prefers strangers to disappear as quickly as possible – he makes this known by barking and curling his lip. Toby is very much on his guard and clearly lets you know when he doesn’t feel safe.

We have also noticed that Toby likes to keep his food to himself. He defends his food if he thinks it might be taken away, so it’s important that he is left alone while eating.

But outside his kennel, on the play fields, you see a completely different side of him. Once he knows you, Toby is incredibly affectionate. He loves nothing more than crawling into your lap, giving kisses, and visibly enjoys attention and pets. That’s where you see how much love is in this little guy – if you just take the time to win his trust.

Walking is something Toby struggles with a lot. Everything that passes by – from people to other animals to vehicles – causes tension. He reacts strongly and has clearly never learned what a relaxed walk looks like. The stress he experiences while walking causes him to lose his composure entirely.

That is why we are looking for a home for Toby with a spacious, well-fenced garden where he can safely sniff, play, and burn off energy without having to be walked daily. The standard four walks a day is not feasible for him at the moment – and also not necessary if he has the right outdoor space at his disposal.

Toby is looking for a special spot with people, without other pets and without small children, who respect his boundaries, give him time to adjust, and take his need for peace and safety seriously. With the right approach, he blossoms into an incredibly sweet, loyal dog – one who will show you with kisses just how much you mean to him.

Unfortunately, we don’t know much about him being home alone, so that will need to be built up gradually in his new home. Additionally, Toby is not yet fully house-trained and will need guidance with this.
