Meet Peanut, a handsome 2-year-old Dutch Shepherd looking for a loving home.

Peanut came to us as a stray. Through the animal ambulance, we eventually learned that his owner was known, but Peanut was never picked up. When he first arrived, he found everything scary and clearly needed some time to get used to his new surroundings.

We’ve since gotten to know a completely different side of Peanut. Although he still finds new situations scary at times, he loves reaching out to people. Behind that cautious first impression is an enthusiastic, active young dog who loves going out together and enjoys attention.

Peanut also seems to get along well with other dogs. He was introduced to a Pug x Jack Russell here, and that went well. He has also been out several times with two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and a small crossbreed, which he really enjoyed. During walks, he usually reacts calmly to other dogs.

Since we don’t know anything about his past, we also don’t know if Peanut has learned to stay home alone. Therefore, we expect that this will need to be built up slowly and step-by-step in a new home.

Before his neutering, X-rays were taken which showed that Peanut has mild hip dysplasia. He also has a somewhat weaker back, and given his active nature, this led to a mild hernia at the start of his stay with us, making it difficult for him to walk for a few hours. Fortunately, he recovered very quickly and currently has no (more) complaints; he shows himself to be a happy and energetic dog. Our vet consulted with a veterinary orthopedist, and Peanut’s prognosis is very good: there is a high chance this won’t happen again in the future. However, it is important for his future owner to keep in mind that he may need pain medication or additional support in the future. Our vet also recommends putting Peanut on joint-support food, such as Hill’s j/d or Hill’s Mobility. We would, of course, be happy to tell you more about this during a meeting.

For Peanut, we are looking for an owner who will give him time to build trust and understands that he can be a bit anxious at first. Someone who can offer him peace, clarity, and a safe foundation. Once Peanut feels at ease, you’ll get a loyal, enthusiastic, and wonderful dog in return who loves going on adventures with you.
