Gago

Gago is a scared tomcat; he finds everything very intense and can startle easily.

When he first arrived, he let us know by hissing and growling. But his regular caregiver saw this as a challenge. With a lot of patience, talking to him softly, playing carefully, and petting him step by step, something beautiful slowly grew: trust. And as it turns out, behind that very scared little face is an incredibly sweet cat.

Once Gago trusts you (which can take a long time), he can really enjoy the attention. He gives plenty of head-butts and if it were up to him, you wouldn’t stop. Although you still have to pay attention sometimes; he can suddenly find it intense or too much and you’ll get a swat. But sometimes he actually taps your hand with his paw to say, hey, keep on petting me. So it’s really important that you get to know him well and can read his body language.

Gago isn’t a cat for someone who startles easily from a little swat or has little experience with cats like him. He’s looking for someone who is experienced, calm, has a lot of patience, gives him time as well as attention, but above all understands that trust must grow. As he starts to trust you more and more, he also shows more of his cuddly side. But his playful side also comes out then; he has a favorite toy here, which is the feather wand.

Gago has his own opinions about food; he’s a real gourmet and knows exactly what he doesn’t like. If he doesn’t like it, he really won’t eat it! We’ve figured out what he does like in the meantime, and that’s important because he could definitely stand to gain some weight.

It’s also important for him that he can start off quietly in a separate, smaller room in his new home. This keeps things manageable and allows him to get used to the new environment at his own pace.
