Angel

We would like to share Angel’s story with you. Unfortunately, we never got to speak with her previous owner about her past. However, we can tell from her behavior that her past hasn’t always been easy.

When Angel first arrived, she wanted nothing more than to be invisible.

She would lie on her bed and not respond to anything. She sat in the furthest corner, pressed against the wall with wide eyes, hoping we would leave her alone.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t an option, so we took her out of the kennel very calmly and with a lot of patience. After a few days, her fear finally began to make way for a cautious recognition. And once she realized we were “familiar,” she FINALLY started jumping up clumsily, giving kisses, and playing.

Even though her trust in some of us grew, her anxious nature is still there. We think Angel is a Cane Corso cross, perhaps with some Boxer or Labrador in her. But the longer she stayed in the kennel, the more she began to defend her own space. Since she managed to scare people away by lunging in the shelter environment, this behavior in the kennel, on the field, and outside toward people has become more serious. Of course, we are teaching her that as many people as possible are fun and trustworthy, but due to a lack of time, we cannot give her the security that a confident owner could provide.

We don’t know if she learned to stay home alone in the past, so this will need to be built up very gradually. She is house-trained in her kennel, and we expect she will be in a new home as well.

She hasn’t been well-socialized with other dogs. She has walked with a few dogs here, but outside she can lunge quite aggressively at others. Angel must be walked with a muzzle. Due to her reactive behavior, Angel will not be placed in a busy city for now. Passing other dogs or people on narrow sidewalks would not be ideal for anyone. We are looking for a quiet household without children in a peaceful environment.

We are also looking for a home without other pets. We are looking for an owner or owners who have experience with positive dog training. Someone who will teach her that using aggression is not the solution. Someone who is literally firm on their feet—both when she lunges, and when she throws herself at you out of pure love or jumps up hard because she wants to play so badly.

We understand that we might be looking for a needle in a haystack, but we want to give Angel this chance with all our hearts. She deserves to be someone’s greatest love.
