Bommel, Zwelgje, and Tom Poes: a happy update from their new home
Two weeks ago, three kittens were able to trade the shelter for a warm home. At the Haags Dierencentrum, we knew them as Almhof, Skyr, and Frico, but they now answer to the names Bommel, Zwelgje, and Tom Poes. Time for an update, because so much is already happening in their new lives.
Three characters, one close-knit team
First of all, Zwelgje. She is clearly still the most cautious. She finds petting a bit scary and likes to keep her distance. Still, we’re already seeing some great steps forward. She can be easily won over with a treat, and she’s becoming braver about staying close. Plus, she always chooses a spot near one of the other kittens, which shows how important that sense of security is to her.
Bommel and Tom Poes, on the other hand, have completely come out of their shells. As soon as the door opens, they’re ready to greet you. Bommel turns out to be a real cuddle bug and loves spending the whole day on someone’s lap or around their neck. Tom Poes needs her own space a bit more, but she regularly stops by for a pet and some attention.
They also constantly seek each other out. On the sofa, the three of them lie together. Zwelgje usually picks a spot slightly further away, like by the feet or on the armrest. If things get a bit too intense for her, she bolts, but remarkably, she always comes back—especially if there’s a treat involved.
Furthermore, it’s one big play adventure. The kittens spend all day chasing each other and playing with anything they can find. They’ve already discovered that many things can be “broken,” just like real kittens do.
Finally, some good news: during the first vet check, Frico’s (Tom Poes) heart murmur could no longer be heard. This will be checked again at the next appointment, but for now, everything is perfectly fine.
Three kittens, three personalities, and one loving home. What a wonderful start.
