Last Friday, December 19, we had the pleasure of welcoming Alderman Barker to the Haags Dierencentrum. His visit focused on bringing extra attention to animal welfare and showing appreciation for the organizations and volunteers who dedicate themselves to this cause every day. A key topic discussed was the fear of fireworks in dogs and cats during New Year’s Eve. How do they react to it, and how can you prevent this stress?

Bringing a tray of delicious Dutch doughnuts (oliebollen), the alderman took the time to talk with our volunteers. They provide shelter, care, and ensure the well-being of our animals with great dedication.
The visit to the Haags Dierencentrum was part of a broader tour of organizations committed to animals and nature, such as a forest ranger, a veterinarian who helps animals with firework stress, and one of the city farms.
We greatly appreciate the alderman coming by to give attention to animal welfare, especially at this time of year.
