A few weeks ago, the Molenweide city farm was all about the Pet Information Point (HIP). During the HIP Pet Party, animal lovers came together to learn more about responsible pet ownership. There was a lot of interest and the atmosphere was enthusiastic.
The city farms in The Hague, together with various animal welfare organizations, are part of the Pet Information Point. This means visitors can go to multiple locations for reliable information. At every HIP, expert staff are on hand to provide information on care, costs, and training. They also help people determine if a pet is a good fit for their situation.
Well-attended and educational HIP Pet Party
Turnout for the HIP Pet Party was high. Many children came along with their parents and grandparents. They received practical information on pet care. There was also a focus on responsibility, explaining how to keep an animal healthy and what to do in unexpected situations.
For example, visitors learned how to act if a dog approaches them on the street. They also got answers to practical questions, such as how to trim a guinea pig’s nails. Additionally, sheep shearer Jan van der Kooy gave a demonstration, removing a sheep’s fleece in just a few minutes. At the same time, there was plenty of room for fun. Children played games and jumped enthusiastically on the bouncy castle.
Valuable conversations with HIP partners
In addition, the event offered a great opportunity to talk with various HIP partners. Organizations such as Het Knagertje, the Haags Dierencentrum, Dierenambulance Den Haag, and De Hondenbescherming were present. These conversations provided a good insight into their daily work.
A volunteer from the Animal Ambulance talked about her work. Every year, they encounter many neglected and injured animals. Support and volunteers are desperately needed to help these animals. Het Knagertje also shared an inspiring story; they rescue rabbits and rodents and are actively involved with the animal food bank.
Good information prevents animal suffering
For many people, a pet is an important source of support and joy. At the same time, every animal requires specific care and attention. That is why good information is essential. The Pet Information Point always focuses on the needs of the animal.
Furthermore, good education can prevent a lot of animal suffering. When people are more conscious about getting a pet, the pressure on animal shelters decreases.
